Karbi Anglong Ginger, a Geographical Indication (GI) tagged product of Assam, has been shipped to London for the first time through a trial consignment of 1.2 metric tonnes. The ginger is grown in the Singhasan Hills of Karbi Anglong district using traditional Jhum (shifting) and Tila (upland) cultivation methods. A GI tag identifies a product as coming from a particular region whose qualities or reputation are linked to that origin. The export opens a new overseas market for the region's farmers and showcases the produce of the North-East.
