Chota Tingrai Tea Estate in Tinsukia district of Assam has produced India's first commercially made matcha tea and sold it at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre. Matcha is a finely ground powder of green tea prepared from Camellia sinensis leaves that are grown in shade, under reduced sunlight, which gives the tea its distinctive character.
