Joha rice, an aromatic indigenous variety grown mainly in Assam, has been exported in large quantities for the first time. A 25-metric-tonne consignment was shipped from Guwahati to the United Kingdom and Italy. The shipment marks a milestone for promoting traditional speciality rice varieties of the Northeast in international markets and opens new income opportunities for growers of this fragrant rice.
