The Archaeological Survey of India has begun excavating an Iron Age burial site at Kamanur near Kodaikanal, as part of a three-year plan for the Palani Hills. Cist burials, dolmens, urn burials and pit burials have been found. This is the first ASI-led dig in Kodaikanal. Earlier excavations in the area were at Thandikudi in 2004 and 2006.
