David J. Farber, the American computer scientist often referred to as the 'Grandfather of the Internet', has passed away in Tokyo at the age of 91. Farber made contributions to the early development of computer networking. He also played a part in expanding ARPANET, the network that preceded and paved the way for the Internet as it exists today. His nickname reflects the role he played in those foundational stages of networked computing, work that helped shape the digital connectivity people rely on now.
