On 1 January 2026, Assam became the first state to constitute its 8th State Pay Commission. Former Chief Secretary Subhas Das is the chairman. The commission will review the pay, allowances and pensions of state government employees as the 7th Pay Commission period ends. Its recommendations will need the state government's approval before they take effect.
