The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed India's first indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine (ETJE) in the 350 kg thrust class. An expendable turbojet is a compact, low-cost engine meant for single-use platforms such as cruise missiles, target drones and loitering munitions, where the engine is not recovered after the mission. Building such an engine at home reduces India's reliance on imported propulsion systems for these weapons and supports the goal of self-reliance in defence technology.
