Researchers from the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology and Stockholm University have produced diamondiyne, a porous three-dimensional carbon material first proposed in theory roughly 35 years ago. Diamondiyne is an allotrope of carbon that keeps a diamond-like 3D network, but its framework contains both single and triple carbon–carbon bonds. This combination makes the structure more open and porous than diamond.
