Central Excise Day on 24 February marks the Central Excise and Salt Act of 24 February 1944, which merged 11 excise laws into one. Central excise is an indirect tax on goods made in India; since GST in 2017 it applies mainly to petroleum and tobacco products. It is administered, along with customs and CGST, by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs under the Finance Ministry's Department of Revenue. World NGO Day was observed on 27 February with the 2026 theme 'Restoring Dignity Through Inclusion'.
