UCIL plans to double India's uranium output by 2036

Save

Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) aims to double uranium production by 2036 through new mines and by recovering uranium from copper residues, supporting India's nuclear power capacity of about 9 GW. UCIL meets roughly one-third of uranium needs from domestic sources; the rest is imported as Indian reserves are limited and low-grade. The planned Rohil project in Rajasthan will handle 2,500 tonnes of ore a day, the Gogi project in Karnataka awaits area demarcation, and further projects are proposed in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Set up in 1967 under the Department of Atomic Energy and headquartered at Jaduguda, Jharkhand, UCIL is the only company legally authorised to mine and process uranium.
