For the first time, Census 2027 will not count beggars and vagrants as a separate category; they will be grouped under 'others' within non-economic activity. In Census 2011 only about 3.8 lakh people declared themselves beggars or vagrants, against 6.3 lakh in 2001 and 5.4 lakh in 1991. The census will also list natural calamities as a reason for migration. New fields will record parents' date and place of birth and religion where the parents do not live in the same household or have died. Aadhaar, voter ID and passport numbers may also be collected where available.
