The Minor Planet Center of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has identified 2026 ED138 as a possible dwarf planet. The object lies past Pluto's orbit in the trans-Neptunian region, roughly 46 Astronomical Units (AU) from the Sun, with an estimated diameter of 600–1,500 km. The IAU created the dwarf planet category in 2006. Only five bodies hold official dwarf planet status: Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake and Eris.
