The Union Budget 2026-27 introduced a new scheme to create a Buddhist Circuit in the north-eastern States. It will conserve and develop Buddhist temples and monasteries in the region and upgrade tourism infrastructure and connectivity around Buddhist pilgrimage centres. The scheme forms part of the government's wider effort to promote cultural heritage while driving regional development in the Northeast. Better access to these sites is expected to attract more domestic and foreign pilgrims and tourists.
