According to Alphaliner, Jawaharlal Nehru Port was the fastest-growing container port in the first half of 2026 and climbed seven places from 28th to 21st globally, just behind Colombo (20th). It handled 4.40 million TEUs between January and June 2026, up 13.6% from 3.87 million TEUs a year earlier. Mundra Port in Gujarat was the only other Indian port in the top 30, at 26th with about 2.4% growth. Higher EXIM demand, added terminal capacity and diversion of some West Asia-bound cargo to Indian ports drove the growth.
