Lok Sabha Passes Motion of Thanks Without PM's Reply, First Since 2004

Save

Amid repeated disruptions, Speaker Om Birla put the Opposition's amendments to vote, which were rejected, and the Lok Sabha then adopted the Motion of Thanks on the President's 28 January address by voice vote, without the Prime Minister's customary reply. The previous such instance was in June 2004, when Manmohan Singh could not reply in the Lok Sabha. In the Rajya Sabha, the motion thanking President Droupadi Murmu was also adopted after the Prime Minister spoke for 97 minutes, with Opposition amendments defeated by voice vote in their absence.
