18 February 2026 marked 80 years since the Royal Indian Navy Revolt of 1946, a five-day uprising from 18 to 23 February by Indian naval ratings against British rule. Triggered by poor food, low pay and racial discrimination, it spread to 78 ships and 20 shore establishments. About 20,000 sailors took part, joined by workers, students and civilians, and the revolt displayed strong Hindu-Muslim unity.
