India launched the Raisina Science Diplomacy Initiative (RSDI) 2026 to strengthen the interface between science, technology and diplomacy, integrating science diplomacy into the Raisina Dialogue. It focuses on governance of emerging technologies, research security, technology-control regimes and equitable participation in global standards, and is scheduled alongside the Raisina Dialogue on 5-7 March 2026 in New Delhi.

Satellite Tagging of Olive Ridley Turtles Begins on Chennai Beaches

A first-of-its-kind initiative began satellite-tagging Olive Ridley sea turtles on Chennai beaches. Two nesting turtles were satellite-tagged and released. The 2025-2027 project by the Wildlife Institute of India and the Advanced Institute for Wildlife Conservation, Vandalur, covers the Chennai coast and Cauvery delta, aiming to satellite-tag 10 turtles and flipper-tag 1,000.

Draft Pesticides Management Bill, 2025 Released

The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare released the Draft Pesticides Management Bill, 2025, to replace the Insecticides Act, 1968. It regulates manufacture, import, sale, storage, transport and use of pesticides, provides for a Central Pesticides Board and a Registration Committee, makes licensing, labelling and digital registration compulsory, and includes penalties for unsafe or illegal use.

Census of India 2027 Schedule Announced - First Digital Census

The schedule for Census 2027 was announced. The first phase, House Listing Operations, will run from 1 April to 30 September 2026 across all States and UTs, with a self-enumeration facility available 15 days before house-to-house collection. The second phase, Population Enumeration, is in February 2027 and will collect caste details.
